Yes. If you don't have Wi-Fi at home, we do not recommend using Fi.
Why does the Fi Collar require Wi-Fi to track my dog?
The Fi Collar will always try to use the most precise and least battery intensive connection source to report your dog's location, and it will connect in the follow preferential order:
- Fi Base: How It Works (requires Wi-Fi)
- Fi App via a signed in owner's mobile phone
- Wi-Fi
- GPS/LTE
The GPS/LTE chip should only be powered on for remote tracking outdoors. We do not recommend using GPS/LTE indoors as it will both cause a drain on overall battery life, and unpredictable performance, since GPS requires a direct line of sight to the sky, which is obstructed indoors.
Indoors your dog's location should be reported via a Fi base, Fi App, or Wi-Fi network.
