The Fi Base works double duty with two important functionalities.
First, the base is used to recharge your Fi Collar. In proper working conditions, your Fi Collar should last up about 2 months on a single charge. You will receive app notifications when your Fi Collar’s battery reaches 20% and when it reaches 5% to prompt you to recharge the collar.
The Series 3 base handles Qi contactless charging like most modern phones. To recharge your collar, just place it in the recess on the charging base. The collar light should start pulsing blue to indicate that it’s charging.
When fully charged, the blue light will remain still and you will also receive a notification that the collar battery is full.
The second duty of the Fi Base is to locate your dog when they are inside your home. GPS signal gets substantially degraded when it goes through structures (your roof, walls, etc.) – and would report an incorrect location for your dog.
When you set up your Fi Base, you will specify a location for it (most often your home) - and whenever the Fi Base will see your collar it will report that your dog is safely at home.
The signal of the Fi Series 3 Base can reach up to a 200ft radius, so it’s highly likely that one base can cover your entire home. In the case of larger area, you may need to add multiple bases for proper indoor coverage.
Additionally, when your Fi Collar is connected to your Fi Base, it does not need to power its LTE-M or GPS chip - resulting in a much extended battery life.
Requirements for the Fi Base
- Access to power. The Fi Base must be plugged in at all times.
- Access to a 2.4GHz Wi-Fi Network. The Fi Base requires Wi-Fi to report your dog's location to Fi's servers.
- Central location. The Fi Base automatically connects to your dog's collar via Bluetooth. Therefore, it is ideally placed in a location where your dog hangs out most often.
Understanding the Fi Base Light
On a Series 3 Base, the small light on the front of the base indicates its current status. The light may reflect the following statuses:
- Pulsing Green = Starting Up
- Static Blue = Fi Collar Docked for Charging
- No Light = Normal Operation
- Static Red = Resetting Fi Collar
- Pulsing Red = Collar Misaligned for Charging
- Static Yellow = No Wi-Fi Connectivity
- Pulsing Yellow = No Configured Wi-Fi, Ready to Activate
