The Fi Base works double duty with two critical functionalities: charging your Fi Collar and acting as a connection source for your collar when your dog's at home.
Because GPS signal gets substantially degraded when it goes through structures (your roof, walls, etc.), the Wi-Fi connection ensures more accurate location for your dog.
When your collar is connected to your Fi Base, it does not need to power its LTE-M or GPS chip - resulting in a much extended battery life.
The signal of the Fi Series 3 Base can reach up to a 200ft radius, so it’s highly likely that one base can cover your entire home. In the case of larger area, you may need to add multiple bases for proper indoor coverage.
Requirements for the Fi Base
- Access to power: The Base must be plugged in at all times.
- Access to a 2.4GHz Wi-Fi Network: The Base requires Wi-Fi to report your dog's location to Fi's servers.
- Central location: The Base automatically connects to your dog's collar via Bluetooth - so it's ideally placed in a location where your dog most often hangs out.
Understanding the Fi Base Indicator Light
On a Series 3 Base, the small light on the front of the base indicates its current status. The light may reflect the following statuses:
- Pulsing Green = Starting Up
- Static Blue = Fi Collar Docked for Charging
- No Light = Normal Operation
- Static Red = Resetting Fi Collar
- Pulsing Red = Collar Misaligned for Charging
- Pulsing Yellow = No Configured Wi-Fi, Ready to Activate
- Static Yellow = No Wi-Fi Connectivity
