GPS/LTE-M
When the collar is not connected to your Fi Base, Wi-Fi or the Fi App (your mobile phone), your Fi Membership will be activated.
Fi uses GPS and LTE-M in tandem. Once the collar receives a signal from GPS to determine its location, it uses LTE-M connectivity to transmit your dog’s location information to your Fi App.
GPS/LTE-M should only be utilized when your dog is outdoors and unattended, in situations when your dog is lost or roaming outside independently.
You’ll want to avoid GPS/LTE-M as the main source of tracking for a few reasons:
- GPS quickly drains the collar's battery. See: Battery Life
- GPS/LTE-M is inaccurate for tracking day-to-day activities, such as walks. When the collar uses GPS and is not utilizing Lost Dog Mode, it will only obtain a location update once every 5 minutes. This is done to conserve battery power for when you need it, such as if your dog is lost.
Pro tip: If your dog is lost, you'll want to activate Lost Dog Mode to speed up GPS/LTE-M updates. See: How To Turn On Lost Dog Mode
