A Safe Zone is an area where you consider your pet safe. Setting up a Safe Zone is crucial to knowing that your pet is in a safe space. You can set up an unlimited number of Safe Zones in your Fi Account and edit them at any time.
It is important that you set up your safe zone to cover more space around the area designated as "safe." This will help avoid unnecessary notifications when your pet is near the edges of the Safe Zone.
Need a Safe Zone for a temporary location? We recommend setting up a Quick Zone instead. Check out the Set Up and Manage Quick Zones article to get started.

Adding & Naming a Safe Zone
You can add a safe zone to any space you frequently visit or are temporarily visiting. Here are some common spaces you can set up and name as a safe zone:
- Your home
- Your second house or residence while on holiday
- A friend or family member's home
- A pet sitter or boarding daycare location
- Your office
- A dog park
- Travel destinations, including a hotel
For the name, while you can leave it as a street address, we recommend naming your Safe Zone so that it is easy for you to remember. Here are some naming examples:
- Home
- Vacation Home
- Beach Home
- Office
- Tom's Place
Setting Up a Safe Zone
Whether you are setting up your first or creating an additional safe zone, follow the steps below to create a safe zone.
-
In the Fi App, tap your pet's profile picture in the lower right corner. Once you are in the profile, tap the 3 stacked lines to open the Settings Menu:
-
Tap Your Pack
-
Scroll down to the Safe Zone heading and tap Add safe zone.
-
Type in a name for the Location Name and type the address into the search bar.
Note: An address may auto-populate in the search bar, which reflects your approximate location. You can remove it and type in another address if needed.
-
Once you have chosen the address, you can set your Safe Zone shape.
-
By default, your safe zone may be a square. You can edit the shape by dragging the lines at each point. Additionally, if you want your safe zone to be a circle, you can tap the circle icon on the right side of the page.
- You will want to ensure the safe zone shape correctly covers the area in the map you consider safe. We recommend doing this even if this automatically updates the address.
-
Safe Zones have a minimum radius/area. They must have the minimum to account for GPS accuracy margin of error.
- Circle Safe Zones have a minimum radius of 18 metres.
- Square/polygon Safe Zones have a minimum area of around 1,051 square metres and can be customized to fit your exact area.
