In order for the Fi Collar to connect to the Fi Mobile App, the app must be running in the background. If the Fi App is force closed, your pup's Fi Collar will be unable to connect to the Fi App, until the app is reopened.
Fi will send you a notification any time the app if force closed to help you prevent this from happening.
What is force closing?
On an iPhone X or later, from the Home screen, swipe up from the bottom of the screen, on an iPhone 8 or earlier double-click the Home button to show your most recently used apps.
From here- if you swipe up on the Fi App, or any app- the app will be closed. You should only do this if the Fi App is not responsive. Instead of swiping up, simply tap away from the app to toggle different functions- and keep the Fi App running in the background.
What shouldn't I force close?
The Fi Collar system has been designed so that we are tracking your pup at all times- and seamlessly. This means the Fi Collar needs to have access to the Fi Base, and Fi App as your pup goes through their day to day activities.
If the Fi App is not running in the background, the Fi Collar cannot "see" it, and will be unable to connect.
The Fi App helps to extend coverage any time you and your pup are together, and out of range from the Fi Base. This is especially important to increase the Fi collar's Battery Life, although will also help to ensure the integrity of the overall system.
