Registering Your Fi Nano Microchip
You can register your Fi Nano Microchip on a laptop/desktop or mobile device.
To get started, ensure that you have the yellow card that was provided to you by the Nano Partner who microchipped your pet.
If you do not have the yellow card or are running into trouble using the QR code, visit nano.tryfi.com/register. You can still register your chip by using the microchip serial number and an active email address.
Steps to Register Your Fi Nano Microchip
- To register your microchip, visit nano.tryfi.com/manage if you are on a laptop/desktop or scan the QR code if you are using a mobile device.
-
If you already have an account, login using your email and password. If you do not have an account, select SIGN UP HERE. If you are signing up for the first time, you can skip to step 4 after inputting your new account information.
-
Once you've logged in, select REGISTER A CHIP.
- Input the email you would like to be reached at if your lost pet is found, and select Next Step.
- If the system does not automatically fill in the microchip number, type in your microchip serial number or the 6-digit number on your yellow card. Once inputted, select Next Step.
- The system will now prompt you to fill out your owner details information. The only requirement is your email. If you chose to provide additional details, select Next Step once complete.
- Next, you will be prompted to fill out information for your pet. It is not required to fill out additional information. Select Complete Registration after filling out more pet details or to complete the registration process.
Please note: If you have a Mixed Breed dog and check the mixed breed box you can choose the closest breed your dog relates to from the dropdown that says Dog Breed. If you have a cat, select Not a dog.
- You are now registered and your microchip is in the Transfer Pending status. See Understanding "Transfer Pending" Status for details on what happens next, including how approval timelines vary depending on your Fi Partner type.
You can check on your microchip's status anytime. To check on a mobile device, tap the three stacked lines on the menu bar and then tap on MANAGE CHIPS. To check on a desktop or laptop click MANAGE CHIPS.
Understanding "Transfer Pending" Status
After registering your Fi Nano microchip, you'll see Transfer Pending status until your Fi Partner approves the release. Approval timelines and processes vary depending on your Fi Partner type.
Adopted from a Rescue or Shelter
As of December 29, rescue and shelter partners are no longer required to approve adopter registrations. When you register your information, it is automatically added to the chip registry and your status will move to Active without any action needed from the rescue.
The rescue organization remains listed as a dual registry, and their contact information stays attached to the chip. As of April 6, rescues receive an informational email when a chip is registered so they are kept in the loop.
Microchipped by a Vet or Breeder
Timeline: Approval typically happens within 24 hours. Your status will automatically change to Active once approved by your Fi Partner.
Still pending after 24 hours? Reach out directly to the partner who chipped your pet using the same phone number or email you've used before. Only they can approve the chip transfer and move it to Active status.
Transfer Your Chip to a New Owner
Important: Only the current registered owner can transfer a microchip. The chip must have the new owner's contact information, not the previous owner's.
Steps to transfer:
- Go to nano.tryfi.com and log in
- Click MANAGE CHIPS from the menu
- Desktop: Expand your screen fully to see MANAGE CHIPS
- Mobile: Tap the 3 lines menu in the upper-left of your screen, then MANAGE CHIPS
3. Select the chip you're transferring
4. Click EDIT (top right corner)
5. Update all contact information with the new owner's details
6. Click SAVE on the bottom-right of your screen
What happens next: The chip immediately transfers to the new owner's account. You won't see a confirmation message - simply refresh your "Your Pets" page and the chip will no longer appear. It will show as Active in the new owner's account.
Request a Chip Transfer
Use this process if you've adopted or received a pet that already has a microchip registered to someone else.
What you'll need:
One of the following:
- Fi Nano ID (6-digit code from the yellow QR card)
- Chip Serial ID (microchip serial number, works for any brand)
Steps to request a transfer:
- Go to nano.tryfi.com/register
- If you already have an account, log in first at nano.tryfi.com
- If you're new, an account will be created during this process
- Enter your valid email address and the microchip serial number
- Complete your contact information and pet details
- Click Complete Registration
What happens next:
- The chip will appear in your account under MANAGE CHIPS with Transfer Pending status
- The previous owner receives an email requesting them to accept the transfer
- Once they approve, your chip status changes to Active
- You can then edit chip details as needed
Troubleshooting: If your chip shows "Finish your registration" instead of "Transfer Pending", you're missing some owner or pet information. Click into the chip to complete all required fields.
Registration Rejected
If you receive an email saying "Your requested Fi Nano Update was unsuccessful," your registration was rejected.
Why this happens:
First-time owner: Your Fi Partner (vet, rescue, or breeder) who microchipped your pet rejected the request
Pet has a previous owner: The previous owner already registered the chip and rejected your transfer request
Next steps:
Contact whoever rejected your request to understand why.
To contact a Fi Partner: Use the email or phone number you've previously used with that vet, rescue, or breeder.
To contact a previous owner:
- Go to nano.tryfi.com
- Enter the microchip number in the search bar
- Complete the CAPTCHA if prompted
- You'll see current pet/owner information
- Click Send Message to contact the registered owner directly
