Under California's Covered Battery-Embedded Products law (SB 1215), companies that sell products containing embedded batteries are required to collect a recycling fee on purchases made by California customers. This fee funds the state's electronic waste recycling programs, which ensure that batteries and battery-embedded products are disposed of safely and responsibly.
Because Fi devices contain embedded batteries, this law applies to purchases shipped to California addresses.
Fi covers the fee for California customers
Fi covers the recycling fee on your behalf, and you won't see any additional charges on your order. The fee is 1.5% of the product purchase price, up to a maximum of $15, and Fi pays it directly, so there's no extra cost to you.
How the fee is used
The recycling fee is sent to the State of California and funds programs that support the safe collection, transportation, and recycling of battery-embedded consumer electronics.
