The Fi Base uses Bluetooth to connect with your Fi Device, so positioning your base so that it can "see" your device is essential. To help determine the optimal setup, we've designed a simple test for understanding base coverage in your home.
Coverage varies based on the materials and layout of your home, so this test will show where your pet can move while staying connected. If needed, you can reposition the base to maximize coverage and ensure seamless connectivity.
What you will need to test: Fi Base (plugged in), Fi Device, Mobile Device with Fi App, Wi-Fi
Before You Begin
1. Ensure your Fi Base is connected to Wi-Fi.
a. Your Fi Base has an indicator light that will show a static yellow light if the base does not have Wi-Fi connectivity.
2. Note the date/time you perform the test.
a. If you need assistance after the test, our Customer Experience Team can advise using this information.
Performing the Test
Total test time: 15 minutes
1. Remove your pet's Fi Device and place it near the Fi Base, but not on. It is critical that the base is plugged in and online.
2. Turn off Bluetooth on your mobile device. This will force the device to connect to the Fi Base.
3. After 1 minute, turn the Bluetooth on your phone back on.
4. Open your Fi App to check the device's connection state and ensure it is "seeing" the base:
a. Tap the Live Tab and then tap your pet's avatar on the Live Card
b. In the Live Map, tap your pet's avatar
c. A status card will appear and display the connection source, such as the Fi Base or Wi-Fi.
5. Take your pet's Fi Device to the farthest spot from the Fi Base within your home and leave it there for 3-5 minutes.
Place the device on a similar level (same height as your pet) for the most accurate results. For example, if your pet is small, place the device underneath a table instead of on top.
6. After 3-5 minutes, check the connection state of the device (same instructions as Step #4 above):
Fi Base - The device can see the Fi Base from this location - you have Fi Base coverage.
7. Repeat as needed in different areas (rooms/floors) of your home. If your pet spends time outside of your house (such as in your garden), we also recommend testing for base coverage in these areas.
8. To end the test, exit the full map screen by tapping the back button on the top-left of your screen.
You now know which areas of your home your pet's Fi Device can "see" the Fi Base and how far the coverage is.
