Your Fi Base needs to be set up indoors, in an area where it can plug into an electrical outlet, connect to your Wi-Fi network, and be placed in an open area where your pet frequently spends time.
Placement and Bluetooth Range
The Fi Base depends on Bluetooth range to connect to the Fi Device, which can reach up to a 150-meter radius in open areas. Bluetooth range, independent of Fi, is impacted by "obstacles" it encounters, such as:
- Walls
- Metal (such as kennels or crates)
- Multiple levels
- Electromagnetic environment (other Bluetooth devices in your home)
Therefore, your Fi Base must be set up in an area where it can "see" the Fi Device.
Repositioning Your Fi Base
Since Bluetooth signals and range are impacted by a variety of factors, you may find that moving your Fi Base slightly helps extend coverage. This is called "repositioning", and you can reposition the Fi Base by:
- Moving the Fi Base out of a cabinet, closet, the Fi Base will perform best when it has a clear line of sight to as many rooms as possible.
- Moving the Fi Base closer to a specific area you want to ensure is covered. One common example is that if your pet spends a lot of time playing in the yard, it is helpful to set up the Fi Base in a window where the line of view is clear to the outdoor area to extend coverage outdoors.
- Moving the Fi Base away from other Bluetooth devices in your home.
Depending on your pet's day, you may want to consider purchasing another Fi Base. When you have multiple Fi Bases, they can be used together to create a mesh network.
