Your dog’s Fi Collar can connect to a known Wi-Fi network when it's out of range of a Fi Charging Base or the Fi App. Understanding the reach of your Wi-Fi is important—whenever the collar connects, it reports the location associated with that network. This helps avoid unnecessary GPS or LTE-M activation, which conserves battery life.
Testing your Wi-Fi coverage is simple and gives you a clear view of where on your property your dog can roam while staying connected. It’s a quick way to ensure accurate location updates and maximize power efficiency.
Steps for Testing Your Wi-Fi Coverage in Your Home
What you will need to test: Fi Charging Base (unplugged), Fi Collar, Mobile Device with Fi App
Total time: 15 minutes
- Unplug your Fi Charging Base so your collar can connect to Wi-Fi instead of the base.
- Remove your dog's Fi Collar and place it in a frequently visited room.
- Walk away from the collar with your mobile device. This allows the collar to connect to Wi-Fi instead of your phone via Bluetooth.
-
Wait 2–3 minutes, then check the collar’s connection status:
-
Open the Fi App and tap the Live Tab:
-
Tap your dog's profile picture in the Live Card:
-
View the Live Map. Tap your pet's photo to reveal the current connection state:
-
The status card will display the current connection source.
- Please note: Bluetooth connections can occur through walls/floors. You may need to walk outside to break this connection.
