Connectivity methods
The Fi Ultra supports four connectivity methods and automatically uses the best available connection based on your pet's environment:
- Bluetooth (BLE): When your Fi Ultra is in range of your phone, it communicates through Bluetooth.
- Wi-Fi: When Bluetooth is out of range, your Fi Ultra connects through Wi-Fi.
- Cellular (T-Mobile): When Bluetooth and Wi-Fi are not available, your Fi Ultra connects to T-Mobile's cellular network.
- Satellite: In remote areas without cellular coverage, your Fi Ultra connects through T-Satellite with Starlink for location reporting.
Connectivity indicators in the Fi app
The Fi app shows different indicators depending on how your Fi Ultra is currently connected:
- Satellite icon: Your Fi Ultra is connected through satellite. This replaces the standard online dot indicator.
- Standard online dot: Your Fi Ultra is connected through Wi-Fi or cellular.
These indicators let you see which connection method your tracker is using at any time.
T-Mobile coverage map
You can check T-Mobile's coverage map to identify which areas near you have cellular coverage and which areas fall into satellite-only coverage zones.
Satellite connectivity
T-Satellite with Starlink keeps your Fi Ultra connected in remote and rural areas where standard cell coverage is not available. It extends your pet's tracking reach beyond what cellular alone can provide, making it well-suited for pets who explore backcountry, mountain, or other off-grid terrain.
Frequently asked questions
Does the Fi Ultra work without cell service?
Yes. It switches to T-Satellite with Starlink in areas without standard cell coverage, so your pet's location keeps reporting.
How do I know which connection is in use?
A satellite icon in the Fi app means your Fi Ultra is connected through T-Satellite with Starlink. The standard online dot means Wi-Fi or cellular.
How do I check coverage in my area?
Check the T-Mobile coverage map section to see cellular versus satellite-only zones.
